If the city of Jerusalem and its environs are not internationalized and a separate body set up for this area, “Catholics will either have to perish or emigrate” from the Jerusalem area, according to an article in L’Osservatore Romano, Vatican newspaper.
The article was written by Monsignor Celso Costantini upon his recent return from a pilgrimage to Palestine. He concludes his article, which urges the Jews to recognize the rights of Christendom to the Jerusalem-Bethlehem area, with an exhortation to Catholics throughout the world to support the Vatican’s stand for internationalization of the area.
