Observatore Romano, newspaper voice of the Vatican, said today that political and economic policy was slowing unification of the Arab world. The Vatican organ was especially referring to a report of a contemplated “migration” of Palestine refugees from Jordan to jobs and land in Iraq, now part of the newly-merged federation.
The newspaper said that such a move would be considered by may Arabs a victory for Israel which, it added, had refused to “return the Palestinians to their homes.” No Arab leader would expose himself to the accusation that he favored the Israeli cause, even indirectly, Osservatore Romano said.
