OSSERVATORE ROMANO, VATICAN ORGAN, DECLARED TODAY THAT THE FLIGHT OF THE MUFTI OF JERUSALEM FROM PALESTINE HAD RID THE BRITISH AUTHORITIES OF AN EMBARRASSING SITUATION AND WOULD FACILITATE SETTLEMENT OF THE LOCAL CONFLICT.

DISCUSSING THE PALESTINE SITUATION, THE NEWSPAPER SAID THE BRITISH WERE RELIEVED OF THE RESPONSIBILITY OF HAVING TO TAKE STRONG MEASURES AGAINST THE ARAB LEADER. THE FLIGHT WAS HELD TO BE OF CAPITAL IMPORTANCE IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF ANGLO-ARAB RELATIONS.

THE SEMI-OFFICIAL AZIONE COLONIALE REPORTED FROM DAMASCUS THAT THE MUFTI WAS CERTAIN HE WOULD BE ABLE TO CONTINUE HIS AGITATION AGAINST BRITAIN FROM HIS REFUGE IN SYRIA BECAUSE FRANCE WAS SYMPATHETIC TO THE ARABS.
