The Vatican is giving “consideration” to a request by the American Federation for Polish Jews that Pope Pius intervene with Cardinal Hlond, the Polish Primate, for condemnation by the Polish clergy of anti-Semitic outbreaks in Poland, according to a communication received by the Federation from the Apostolic Delegate in Washington, Archbishop Cicognani.
The Apostolic Delegate’s message, addressed to Dr. Joseph Tenenbaum, president of the organization, declared that in response to the appeal of the Federation: “I have been requested by the Holy See to assure you that the matter concerned would be given proper consideration.”
