Pursuing the plan of the Vichy Government to extend the French anti-Jewish laws to the 110,000 Jews of Algeria, Xavier Vallat, French Commissioner for Jewish Affairs, arrived here today from Vichy. He was met by French military representatives and by a representative of the Sultan.

Timing its broadcast to the arrival of Commissioner Vallat, the Nazi-controlled radio station in Paris broadcast the provocative news that “Jews have arrived from Tel Aviv and Haifa to Syria and Lebanon to settle there on Moslem land.” A vast plan for the colonization of Jews in Syria and Lebanon is already being implemented, the broadcaster alleged. The districts chosen for the settlement of Jews are in the neighborhood of Damascus and in the fertile region of the North, he said.
