Victor Basch, Defender of Dreyfus, and His Aged Wife Killed in France

Dr. Victor G. Basch, president of the Nazi-dissolved league for Human Rights in France and for years an executive member of the Alliance Israelite Universelle, was found murdered on a highway several kilometers from Lyons, it was reported here today. The body of his murdered wife was found several hundred at away.

Dr. Basch, who was 84 years old, came into prominence as a champion of the defense in the sensational Dreyfus case. He was active in various Jewish, organizations in France. He was professor of philosophy and esthetics at the Sorbonne in Paris for more than twenty-five years. He was born in Budapest, Hungary, and came to France in his early youth to study at the University in Nancy. He is the author of numerous works, some of which have been translated into English.
