A new threat to the economic security of the Vienna Jewish community was seen today in the announcement that the three remaining large banks in the Austrian capital, the Vienna Kreditanstalt, the Wienerbank and the Verein Escompte Gesellschaft, had merged. About seven hundred Jewish employees are directly affected by the merger.
None of the Jewish directors of the three institutions was retained on the directorate of the new concern. Among the Jewish bank directors losing their posts are Dr. Heinz Heimer, Herr Turnauer and Herr Schwartz.
