A general decrease in the strength of the Jewish community of Vienna is seen by statistics made public here.
Jewish births in Vienna amounted to 1579 in 1927, as compared with 2,557 in 1924, while the death rate increased from 2,695 to 2,739 in 1927. Secessions from the Jewish community, either to a state of Confessionslose or to join another faith, amounted to 1,063 in 1927, an increase from the 881 in 1924. Marriages decreased in the same period, 1159 Jewish couples having married during the past year. In 1924 there were 1,470 marriages. In the first month of this year there were 125 births, 234 deaths and 66 who left the Jewish community. Twenty-three persons returned to the Jewish community.
