Vienna’s Jews fasted yesterday and today as the international refugee-aid conference, on which they base all their hopes, got under way in Evian-Les-Bains, France. Proclamations announcing the fast were read in all synagogues on Tuesday, on the eve of the opening of the conference, and thousands went without food yesterday. Many others, informed too late to fast yesterday, observed the fast today instead.
