Nazis were taken sharply to task today by the semi-official newspaper, Reichspost, for alleged efforts to have the success of Austro-German economic talks hinge upon Austrian concessions to Hitlerites in this country, the Havas News Agency reported.
The economic talks begin early next week.
The Nazis are seeking to force Austria to recognize the outlawed Austrian Nazi party, grant a general amnesty to the Nazis and permit Nazi leaders to enter the Austrian cabinet, it was charged.
These plans are totally at variance with the spirit of the Austro-German accord of July 11 which recognized Austria as mistress of its own internal affairs, the newspaper said.
“An entente with Nazis who continue to uphold as heroes those responsible for the death of Dollfuss (Engelbert Dolfuss, Austrian Chancellor killed by Nazis) is impossible,” the newspaper said.
“It can be comprehended they wish to falsify the bases of the Austro-German accord, but when they go so far as to intimate the Reich Government approves they merely insult this Government,” the newspaper went on.
