A protest against the appointment of Rabbi Rubinstein, member of the Polish Senate and leader of the Mizrachi, orthodox Zionist organization in Poland, by the Minister of Religion, was submitted to the Kehillah Executive by the Vilna Rabbinate today.
Members of the Kehillah Council belonging to the Agudath Israel, Orthodox world organization, resigned from the Council as a demonstration against Rabbi Rubinstein’s appointment. The Agudah members contend that the Jewish population of Vilna recognizes as its Chief Rabbi, Rabbi Grodzenski, President of the Beth Din, Jewish religious court. Only the President of the Beth Din, they argued, is entitled to be the Chief Rabbi.
