The cornerstone of a vocational training school at Chabad, a settlement where five boys and a young instructor were murdered by Egyptian fedayeen just 30 days ago, was laid this week by the mothers of the victims, assisted by Joseph Sprinzak, Speaker of the Israel Parliament.

Thousands of guests turned out for the ceremony, including Chief Rabbi Isaac Herzog, Ministers and deputies in Parliament. Messages were read at the ceremony from Israel President Itzhak Ben Zvi and Rabbi Schneerson, the Lubavitcher Rebbe. The settlement is one of a number founded in Israel by the Lubavitcher Rebbe.

Charles Passman, head of the Joint Distribution Committee’s operations in Israel, pledged that the JDC would provide a printing press and other equipment for the school. The institution will have a capacity of 300 children. The children and the instructor who were murdered by the Egyptian guerrillas were in attendance at an agricultural school in the village.
