The so-called Blease voluntary alien registration bill has been favorably reported to the Senate by a 7 to 2 vote of the Senate Immigration Committee despite the 71-page printed report, consisting chiefly of materials in opposition to the bill, issued by the Committee in extension of the hasty oral hearings held recently.
The bill is now on the calendar of the Senate for action and there is a strong likelihood of its adoption. The two votes against the bill were cast by Senators Nye and Copeland who urged that the measure was merely an opening wedge for a compulsory registration law with all its accompanying objection of corruption and espionage.
