Heinrich von Kauffmann, German envoy to the Argentine Republic, has been recalled, it was reported here today. Herr von Kauffmann is of Jewish descent and one of the very few who could be classed as non-Aryans still to hold an important post in the Government service.
In the press controversies which raged in the South American republic, Von Kauffmann was violently pro-Nazi and defended the policies of the Hitler government against the onslaughts of Jews and Latin American liberals. The belief was then expressed that Von Kauffmann was trying to save his place by the expression of his loyal feelings, but it was felt even several months ago and the skids were under him.
