A statement deploring the recent arrests of Jewish leaders in the Soviet Union was issued today by the Israeli executive of the World Jewish Congress.

“We are convinced that there is no foundation for the version that these people turned traitor or were agents of a foreign state,” the statement said; “Their only sin has been their devoted service to their Jewish communities.”

Calling on Soviet authorities to release the Jewish leaders, the executive also appealed to the Soviet Government to permit Russian Jews to rejoin members of their families who are settled in other countries.
