The coordinating committee of the World Jewish Congress ended a two-day meeting here last night with a decision to summon a plenary meeting of the Congress World Executive in Geneva starting July 20.
The meeting, at which Dr. Nahum Goldmann, WJC president, presided, was attended by representatives of the America, European and Israel branches of the executive and by representatives of affiliated bodies in Australia, Canada and Argentina.
Delegates considered the Jewish situation in Eastern Europe and North Africa and heard reports on negotiations with authorities in those areas. At the end of the sessions. Dr. Goldmann and other WJC leaders met with officials of Italian Jewish organizations.
(Dr. Israel Goldstein, president of the American Jewish Congress, returned today from Rome where he participated in the meeting of the World Jewish Congress coordinating committee. He reported that he had an audience with Pope Pius XII at which he expressed the appreciation of the AJC for the protection and shelter extended by the Vatican to Jews in Rome and throughout Italy during the Nazi period.)
