World Jewry “is deeply shocked” by the presence of West German scientists in Egypt, working on non-conventional weapons “aimed at Israel’s ultimate destruction,” an official of the French Section of the World Jewish Congress today told Karl Knoke, the West German Minister in Paris.
Armand Kaplan, secretary general of the French Section, met with the West German diplomat to convey the “apprehensions” of the World Jewish Congress to the West German Government. The WJC official asked the diplomat to convey to the West German Government a series of proposals to deal with the problem.
One of the proposals was to stigmatize publicly all West Germans “who aid in production of arms aimed at Israel’s destruction.” Another was to recall all West German nationals engaged in such actions. Others were to take “appropriate legal measures” against nationals rejecting appeals to return home and to prevent all firms with which the nationals were in contact to get any assistance from the Government.
