UN Secretary General Kurt Waldheim “is very concerned” over reports that the Israeli Air Force attacked a nuclear plant under construction in Iraq yesterday, a spokesman for the Secretary General said today.
The spokesman said that Waldheim, who is presently in Tokyo, is “in the process of getting further information” and he will make a further statement later in the day. The spokesman added that no complaint or contacts were made so far by Iraq to the Security Council.
Diplomats here however said they do not rule out a call by Iraq for an urgent meeting of the Security Council in the next few days.
