Kurt Waldheim, the United Nations Secretary General, was strongly criticized here yesterday for predicting that there would be anther war within two years unless the Middle East conflict is settled.
Gideon Rafel, former Israeli Ambassador to the UN who is now Ambassador to Britain, said that under the United Nations Charter war its recurrence, Waldheim as “guardian of the UN,” should condemn those who maintain the state of war’ against Israel.
He also questioned Waldheim’s prophetic powers noting that in September, 1973–only days before the Yom Kippur War–the Secretary General had affirmed that Middle East Prospects had never seemed brighter.
