Secretary of State Edward R. Stettinius, the war Department and the War Refugee Board, today assured the Jewish Labor Committee that the American Government is taking every possible and practicable step to prevent the Jewish people of Belgium and Luxembourg from being annihilated in areas that may be temporarily overrun by the Nazis.
An announcement by Adolph Held, David Dubinsky and Joseph Baskin, chairman, treasurer and secretary, respectively, of the Labor Committee, said that this assurance was given to the JLC as a result of a telegram the Committee sent President Roosevelt last week, revealing receipt of information from Europe that Belgian and Luxembourg quislings planned to kill Jews in all sections temporarily overrun by the Nazis.
