War in the Middle East was virtually threatened by Syria today when Farid Zeineddine, chairman of the Syrian delegation, told the General Assembly that under the present circumstances “a resumption of hostilities or a recurrence remains inevitable.”
The “Anglo-Franco-Zionist triumvirate” is threatening the entire Middle East and seeks to bring about intervention and increase the tensions between the United States and the Soviet Union, Mr. Zeineddine declared. The Security Council should adopt sanctions against the “triumvirate,” he continued. But, he said, since the veto in the Council might halt such action his country would have to exercise the “right of self-defense.”
