John W. Pehle, executive director of the War Refugee Board, appeared before a House Appropriations subcommittee this week to request an appropriation of $150,000, the Jewish Telegraphic Agency learned today.
The sum was asked to take care of administrative expenses of the agency from January to June in the event it is necessary to maintain the War Refugee Board that long. Under the provisions of the Russell amendment, any government agency in existence over a year must come to Congress for appropriations. The War Refugee Board was set up last January 22.
