The new War Refugee Board established by President Roosevelt last week must demand free immigration of Jews into Palestine, Rep. Emanuel Celler of New York said today.
In a speech on the floor of the House of Representatives he called on the Board to compel Britain to abide by the Balfour Declaration and said: “The offending White Paper of 1939 was not only rejected but also condemned by the Permanent Mandates Commission of the League of Nations as a violation of Britain’s mandate over Palestine. Scores of nations denounced Britain for her perfidy. Thus, a glorious opportunity is presented to the War Refugee Board to persuade the British Foreign Office to right the great wrong.”
