A demand that Frank J. Loesch be dismissed as a member of President Hoover’s Law Enforcement Commission because of his charge in an address a month ago at the University of Iowa that “recent immigrants and the first generation of Jews and Italians are the chief criminal offenders, with the Jews furnishing the brains and the Italians the brawn,” was made yesterday by Brooklyn Post No. 2, Jewish War Veterans, in the form of a resolution adopted unanimously at a meeting held in the Conference Room of the “Brooklyn Examiner,” Wednesday night.
The resolution was adopted after a telegram which was sent to Mr. Loesch by Commander Irving Alkow of the Jewish Veterans, asking Mr. Loesch to explain his speech, remained unanswered. The resolution was signed by Col. Morris J. Mendelsohn, chairman of the protest committee; Isidor Alkow, commander; and Abraham Kraditor, adjutant, of the Brooklyn Post No. 2, Jewish War Veterans.
After protesting against Mr. Loesch’s statement, which it declares to be a “false, malicious and slanderous indictment of an entire people,” the resolution declares:
“Resolved that such a statement does incalculable harm to thousands of loyal and patriotic Jewish citizens of America, a quarter million of whom (almost twice their proportionate quota) served the colors in the great world conflict, and be it further resolved that we respectfully petition His Excellency, Herbert Hoover, President of the United States of America, to summarily remove the offender from public office as being a menace to the very fundamentals of our American institutions.”
Rabbi. Louis D. Gross, editor of the “Brooklyn Examiner,” presided at the meeting which adopted the resolution.
