A gift of $150,000 by Felix M. Warburg and contributions by the Women’s Division of $273,800 were announced at a rally of the workers in the New York Allied Jewish Campaign at the Hotel Biltmore. Mr. and Mrs. Warburg were the hosts of yesterday’s function for the workers in the drive to raise $2,500,000 toward the sum of $6,000,000 which is being sought nationally.
James N. Rosenberg, chairman of the drive in this city, presided at the rally and the speakers were Supreme Court Justice Albert Cohn, chairman of the Bronx section of the campaign; Arthur Lehman, an honorary chairman of the New York drive; Mrs. Blanche E. Goldfarb, president of the Federation of Women’s Organizations of Greater New York; and Mrs. Abram I. Elkus.
The $273,800 announced by the Women’s division yesterday represents contributions turned in at headquarters prior to the rally in the afternoon. The quota for the Women’s Division was originally $250,000, but Mrs. Warburg announced yesterday that efforts are being made by her workers to carry the total for this division beyond the $300,000 mark.
Paul Baerwald reported that the Bankers’ and Brokers’ Division had raised $453,000, and Louis J. Vorhaus reported $68,000 for the Lawyers’ and Judges’ Division. Chairmen for the various sectional groups in the Men’s Division reported as follows: Samuel A. Telsey, $40,000 for Brownsville; Senator Nathan Straus, Jr., $80,000 for the Upper West Side of Manhattan; Justice Albert Cohn, $45,184 for the Bronx and Rabbi Nachman H. Ebin, $13,000 for Bensonhurst.
