The first session of the city council of Warsaw, at which the new administration was constituted following the recent municipal elections, was marked by extraordinary disturbances.
The disturbances were caused by the fact that two of the Jewish councillors insisted on reading their statements not only in Polish but in Yiddish as well. This was done by G. Zybert, councillor elected on the ticket of the Jewish labor party, Bund, and Councillor Lew, elected by the Jewish labor party, Poale Zion.
President Jaworowski, elected to the office on the ticket of the Polish Socialist Party, took exception to the reading of the declarations in Yiddish, stating that the constitution of the Warsaw City Council permits only the Polish language.
Zybert and Lew protested against the ruling of the president, while the councillors of the Polish Right parties raised a tumult. The councillors elected on the tickets of the other Jewish groups read their declarations only in Polish.
