Warsaw Merchant Takes Life over Economic Crisis

Hersch Welnicki, formerly one of the wealthiest textile merchants of Warsaw’s textile center, Gensha Street, committed suicide today by jumping from the fifth floor of a building. The economic crisis now prevailing among the traders in Gensha Street was given as the reason for his act.

Recently, at a general meeting, it was declared that the once flourishing cloth trade center on Gensha Street was threatened with economic ruin if the government did not relieve the merchants of the heavy taxes.
