Newspapers, recalling that the Balfour Declaration for a Jewish homeland was issued during his reign, compared him to Cyrus the Great, the Persian King who aided the Jewish nation to reconstitute itself in Palestine after the Babylonian exile.
It was emphasized that while other thrones fall, the British throne is surrounded by respect and admiration because of the King’s noble traditions of generosity.”
