Efroykin, chairman of the Committee of Jewish delegations in Paris declared here today. “Dr. Sacerdoti had the interests of Jewish solidarity at heart which is rare in Western Jews. AJC CABLES CONDOLENCES TO ITALIAN JEWS

The American Jewish Congress yesterday cabled the Jewish community of Italy, expressing its profound shock and sorrow at the passing of Dr. Angelo Sacerdoti, Chief Rabbi of Italy and the elected spokesman of Italian Jewry.

In a statement to the Jewish Daily Bulletin, issued by the American Jewish Congress, the organization declares that “the deceased was one of the most distinguished leaders of Italian Jewry, whose repute reach out far beyond the confines of his own country. His passing is a very serious loss to the Italian people, to the Italian Jewish community and to world-Jewry.”

“One of the foremost protagonists of a World Jewish Congress,” the statement continues, “he was long active in defense of Jewish rights. In his own country he played an extremely important role in improving the status of the Jewish community. His friendship with the King of Italy and his close relations with Premier Mussolini had an important effect on the attitude of the Italian government toward the Jewish situation in several lands.”
