President Shazar’s visit to Washington was the subject of a discussion here today in the State Department between Secretary of State Dean Rusk and Israel Ambassador Avraham Harman, Preparations for the visit of the Presi- dent of Israel were discussed. United States sources stressed that while President Shazar will be the guest of President Johnson, his visit is regarded as informal and private.
Mr. Shazar will be welcomed at Washington National Airport by State Department protocol officials when he arrives Tuesday at 11:30 a.m. on a private plane. He will then be taken to the White House for an "informal" meeting and talk with President Johnson. The Israeli President will receive the hospitality of Blair House, as the President’s guest, and will stay at the famous mansion where honored guests from abroad are accommodated.
On Tuesday afternoon, President Shazar will be guest of The Organization of American States where Latin American ambassadors and other dignitaries will participate in the luncheon honoring him. A ceremony will be held in the office of Dr. Jose Mora, secretary-general of the O.A.S. Dr. Mora will affix his signature to an agreement providing for funds from the Inter-American Bank for development projects in which Israeli teams of advisers and technicians will take part.
An official White House dinner, honoring the visit of President Shazar, will be tendered Tuesday evening by President and Mrs. Johnson.
On Wednesday, President Shazar will go from Blair House to Arlington National Cemetery to lay a wreath on the tomb of President John F. Kennedy. Israel Ambassador Avraham Harman will tender a luncheon later that day at the Ambassador’s residence. Many important personages have indicated they plan to attend.
Mrs. Harman, wife of the Ambassador, will be the hostess at a luncheon on Tuesday honoring Mrs. Shazar. Among those in attendance will be Mrs. Hubert H. Humphrey, wife of the U.S. Vice-President. Mrs. Johnson is busy with preparations for her daughter’s wedding. Mrs. Humphrey will tender a luncheon for Mrs. Shazar on Wednesday. The Shazar party will leave Washington on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. for New York, from where they are scheduled to return to Israel.
