Washington Jdl Tries to Get Russians’ Goat, but Door is Baa-rred

Three metropolitan police lieutenants, as many sergeants and a dozen patrolmen rushed to the second floor of the National Press Building today and found a nanny goat, bearing the appeal “I Am A Jewish Scapegoat–Please Save Me,” chained to the main door to the offices of Tass, the Soviet news agency. The police responded to a telephoned report that the Jewish Defense League was demonstrating at Tass. None of those present–a score of college-age men and women and Dr. William Perl, chairman of the JDL of Greater Washington–claimed ownership of the animal. “The goat came straight over the Tass wires from Leningrad” Dr. Perl blandly told newsmen, alluding to the trial there of nine Jews. A dentist on the floor said, however, that it had arrived in a orate. Before the police appeared, Dr. Perl pounded on the Tass door and shouted: “Murdererst Liarsi Just show your red faces to the American public.” Stickers pasted to the door read “Young Americans For Responsible Action” and “Justice For Soviet Jews.” The JDL group left at the request of the building manager.
