Lewis E. Spiegler, Washington Jewish leader who for many years directed the United Jewish Appeal of the Washington area, was buried with military honors in Arlington National Cemetery. Mr. Spiegler, an attorney and specialist on immigration matters, died at the age of 66.
A veteran of World War I, he was a member of the Jewish Community Council executive, a founder of the Jewish Community Center, a past president of the Brandeis District, Zionist Organization of America, a leader of the Jewish War Veterans of the United States, a HIAS leader, and active in many other Jewish undertakings. He rendered much assistance to Jewish immigrants and refugees in the District of Columbia area.
