Warmly receiving a delegation of the Palestine Agudath Israel, orthodox Jewish organization, High Commissioner Sir Arthur Grenfell Wauchope today assured the group that Jewish rights in the Holy Land would not be curtailed and hinted that he would ignore reported negotiations with Arab leaders, it was learned.
Sir Arthur pointed out that any restriction of Jewish privileges would not be in conformity with the policy formulated by Colonial Secretary William G. A. Ormsby-Gore.
Regarding stoppage of Jewish immigration, reliable sources said that the High Commissioner had been unable to add anything to previous statements but that he had declared that under no circumstances would the administration be cowed by terrorism.
“The civil government,” he is quoted as having said, “is strong enough to pacify the country. However, we are unable to terminate the violence because of its guerilla character.”
