A wave of anti-Semitic excesses is spreading from Bucharest and is reaching even the poorest Jews in the district of Marmorosch, particularly in the village of Vorsch where students, after a patriotic congress, broke windows in all Jewish houses, devastated Jewish shops and beat Jewish passersby.
The news of this disturbance only reached Klausenberg when a neighboring Jewish community informed the authorities who sent police to arrest a priest as the ringleader. This led to a demonstration with 300 villagers barricading themselves in a church and refusing to surrender the priest. The government has issued a communique assuring that it has adopted sufficient measure to ensure protection to be spreading. The press points out that the beating of Jews is going on even in the streets of Bucharest, especially near students’ homes. Particular regret is expressed that military persons are taking part in the attacks.
