Col. Josiah Wedgwood, British Labor M. P., now touring Roumania as a representative of the Keren Hayesod, was received by Queen Marie at a lengthy audience devoted primarily to a discussion of the problems of the rebuilding of Palestine. Col. Wedgwood requested Queen Marie to visit Palestine.
Wednesday evening a reception in honor of Col. Wedgwood was given by Princess Bibesco at her home. Ladies in waiting at the court and the wives of government members attended the reception. Among those present was also Madame Blanc, wife of the Roumanian Jewish banker. Juliu Maniu, Peasant Party leader, the probable next Prime Minister, and other government leaders sent expressions of regret at their inability to be present because of the government crisis.
HOOVER WIRES APPRECIATION TO HERMAN BERNSTEIN
Herbert C. Hoover, President-elect, sent the following telegram to Herman Bernstein, author and publicist, in reply to a congratulatory message:
“I am deeply grateful for your telegram. Your many years’ friendship has been a fine part of this success,” Mr. Hoover’s telegram read.
In his message of congratulation, Mr. Bernstein declared: “For nine years I have hoped for the time when I could send you this message. My warmest congratulations on your great victory, which is a vindication of the intelligence and gratitude of the American people. Yours is a triumph of idealism in deeds and religious liberty in practice. The nation is to be congratulated, for in electing you President, it has chosen the most independent, progressive, best informed and constructive statesman with a heart.”
