Revival of the Palestine partition scheme as part of the British plan to establish a pan-Arab federation was predicted at a press conference today by Col. Josiah Wedgwood, pro-Zionist Laborite member of Parliament, who has just arrived here for a three-month tour.
Asked how he visualized the status of Palestine in connection with the pan-Arab federation which Foreign Secretary Anthony Eden indicated last week the British Government would support, Col. Wedgwood said he expected that a portion of Palestine “as big as the State of New Jersey” would be proclaimed as a Jewish state, affiliated with the proposed Arab federation.
The parliamentarian urged arming of the Palestine Jews and creation of a home guard along the lines of the Home Guard in England. He deplored the fact that the Palestine Jews had not yet been adequately armed. However, he expressed belief that the time had not come for establishment of a Jewish army as an ally of the British.
