The British Home Secretary, Sir John Gilmour, is prepared to consider banning the “ritual murder” issue of the notorious weekly of Nuremberg, Der Stuermer, should it become necessary, the House of Commons was informed today.
Commander Oliver Locker-Lampson, Conservative, asked the Home Secretary whether he would take steps to halt the sale of Julius Streicher’s paper, which contained allegations of ritual murder against the Jews in England. Locker-Lampson pointed out that the paper was calculated to cause a disturbance of the peace if sold and distributed.
Douglas Hacking, Under-Secretary of Home Affairs, who replied for the government, declared he believed that Der Stuermer was not sold in England. However, should the paper be sold, the Home Secretary was prepared to consider a ban on the paper in the public interest.
