Gen. Ezer Weizman, former Minister of Transport and Communications, advised the Surgical Association in Haifa last night that next year would be decisive for Israel because she would have to make specific stands on borders and on the structure of the state. The former Air Force commander, whose Gahal Party quit the coalition cabinet over its acceptance of the United States peace initiative, also said that in the face of Egyptian missile strength along the Suez Canal, Israel could not compromise–she must either return to the Jarring peace talks or destroy the missiles. In his opinion, the current situation–with Israel refusing to return to the talks without a missile “rectification”–could not be maintained much longer, If Israel yields on the matter, she would likely be pressed to withdraw from “areas which we are now considering as Israel proper,” Gen. Weizman declared.
