The British Government, by delaying political action on Palestine, is artificially causing a depression in the Holy Land, Dr. Chaim Weizmann, president of the World Zionist Organization, charged last night at a General Zionist farewell meeting for him. He is leaving for London.
“I am afraid the new commission, finding the country economically weakened, will offer new proposals,” Dr. Weizmann told 4,000 of his supporters. “There is no need of a commission, but we will try to assist this commission as we assisted the previous one.”
Britain, he asserted, must choose between restricting Jewish endeavor and permitting Jewish upbuilding of the entire Orient. The Zionists do not want a caricature of a Jewish State, but have been given the opportunity to receive a small but good state, he said.
Mrs. Edgar Dugdale, niece of the late Lord Balfour, assured the Jews that “many friends in England assist your fight.”
Dr. Weizmann was booed on his arrival at the meeting by Zionist-Revisionists, who were dispersed by police armed with truncheons.
