A national conference on Palestine has been called for Sunday, May 20, at the Astor Hotel, New York. The letter of invitation to the conference has been signed by Dr. Chaim Weizmann, president of the World Zionist Organization.

At the conference Dr. Weizmann will report on the latest situation in Palestine. Reports on the response to the United Palestine Appeal campaigns in Jewish communities throughout the country will be presented.

The calling of the conference has been necessitated by the present situation in Palestine, Dr. Weizmann stated. In his letter of invitation which has been sent to the leaders in the cause for the up-building of Palestine, Dr. Weizmann writes:

“During my stay in America, I have been calling the attention of American Jewry to the fact that Palestine faces a new era of progress. The pioneers are imbued with a new spirit of hope and ambition. They see around them new sources of strength. Industries are being revived, and new capital is beginning to flow into the country.

“The announcement has been made that, thanks to special contributions coming from American Jews, unemployment from which we have been suffering for many months, will shortly cease. The crisis is being liquidated, but everything depends upon securing from the Jews of America, the continued remittance of their quota for the Palestine budget. The holding of the present position depends upon arousing the consciousness of responsibility of American Jewry.

“In order to ascertain the progress made by the United Palestine Appeal throughout the country, and also to discuss various problems affecting the welfare of Palestine, an extraordinary conference is being called by the United Palestine Appeal, to be held at the Hotel Astor, Broadway and 44th street, in New York City on Sunday, May 20.

“I urge the leading contributors to the United Palestine Appeal, and those who have taken a distinguished part in the work of raising funds for Palestine, to be present.”

Supreme Court Justice Mitchell May has accepted the chairmanship of the testimonial dinner to be tendered to Dr. Chaim Weizmann president of the World Zionist Organization, at the Unity Club, Brooklyn, on May 16. The dinner is being sponsored by leading Brooklyn Jews who hitherto have not participated in the United Palestine Appeal.

Endorsement of the plan whereby Brooklyn Reform Jewry will pay tribute to the world Zionist leader was given in talks by Justice May, Rabbi Alexander Lyons of Temple Beth Elohim and Rabbi Louis D.Gross of Union Temple.
