Russian and American Jews were urged to cooperate in the solution of Jewish post-war problems, in rebuilding the devastated Jewish communities in Europe and in the building of a Jewish National Home in Palestine, in a declaration adopted last night at a Unite Conference held at Carnegie Hall under the auspices of the Committee of Jewish Writers and Artists of which Dr. Chaim Zhitlowsky is chairman. More than 800 delegates representing various Jewish groups participated.
Dr. Chaim Weizmann, president of the Jewish Agency for Palestine. in a message to the Conference read by Dr. Israel Goldstein, president of the Jewish National Fund of America, expressed the belief that “when the Soviet people see what the Jews have achieved in Palestine. they will extend their full support and cooperation to the upbuilding of the Jewish National Home.” The Soviet Consul-General Victor Fediushin, addressing the Conference, said that the invincible alliance of America, Great Britain and Russia would not only win the war but also a just peace for all the peoples of the world.
The conference, which concluded with the singing of the Star Spangled Banner, Hatikvah and the Soviet national anthem, heard a number of speakers describe Nazi brutalities. Messages were received at the gathering from the British, Polish, Czechoslovak, Norwegian, Yugoslav and other consulates in the United States.
