Dr. Chaim Weizmann, president of the World Zionist Organization, has authorized the Jewish Telegraphic Agency to deny that he ever said “we have no reason to complain, because in our case the government has fulfilled sixty percent of its promises.” While the Jewish Telegraphic Agency correctly reported Dr. Weizmann’s speech at the Anglo-Palestine Club, a number of papers misinterpreted his words.
The passage in question reads: “‘We are told today that the Balfour Declaration was a war measure, that the government makes and breaks promises, but that in our case the government has fulfilled at least sixty percent of them and therefore we have no reason to complain.” The reference to being satisfied with sixty percent is therefore not Dr. Weizmann’s, but what other people say should satisfy the Zionists.
