The necessity of expanding the Natural Science department of the Hebrew University in Jerusalem was emphasized today by Dr. Chaim Weizmann, chairman of the university’s council, and A. H. Frankel, acting dean of the Faculty of Natural Sciences, addressing the meeting of the university Board of Governors.
Dr. Weizmann estimated the expansion plans would involve an expenditure of $250,000, which he said he believed could be raised within a few years.
Both speakers stressed the importance of rounding out the chemistry and physics divisions. The chemistry division would require a laboratory for students and the physics division apparatus for research and instruction, they said.
Referring to the projected agricultural school at the university, Dr. Weizmann said its establishment had been delayed because sufficient funds had not been available. He promised to seek approval of the Actions Committee of the World Zionist Organization, at its meeting here tomorrow, for an allocation by the Jewish Agency for Palestine for the school.
