The New York Times today printed the following correction of a Jerusalem story published Nov. 26:
In the account of the proceedings of the royal commission of inquiry on Palestine, as published in The New York Times, Nov. 26, there appeared an erroneous quotation attributed to Dr. Chaim Weizmann, who gave evidence.
The incorrect quotation read, “*******unless Palestine is given to the Jews mankind is faced with the menace of a huge army of international malcontents capable in their despair of destroying the world that bars their way to redemption.”
Dr. Weizmann actually said:
“Our youth in the Diaspora is unhappy because of its doom to inactiveness and suffering, and being unable to see the end of its suffering it is caught out of sheer despair in the nets of extremist movements. Their despair grows in volume daily as unemployment increases.
“There are those among our ‘friendly’ on the other side of the Rhine who threatened us and libeled us, saying that if the Jews don’t get Palestine they will destroy the whole world. I don’t agree in this threat, but it is apt to make us think that if this youth does not receive hope for renascence and for the straightening of their back, where will it end?”
