Gen. Haim Bar Lev, the Minister of Commerce and Industry, said last night that Israeli industry will employ 8000 academically trained people in the next four years, almost double the number it employs at present. He stressed that the future of Israel’s industry depends on its ability to utilize scientific research.
Bar Lev spoke at the Weizmann Institute of Science in Rehovoth where an honorary fellowship was conferred on the American jurist and philanthropist, Harold Weill. Chancellor Meyer Weisgal of the Weizmann Institute and Abraham Feinberg, chairman of its board, spoke of Weill’s role in aiding medical and scientific research. Weill has helped sponsor research aimed at eliminating leukemia, sickle cell anemia and Cooley Disease.
