Weizmann Lauded and Criticized in Connection with Ben-gurion’s Resignation

Dr. Chaim Weizmann, president of the world Zionist movement, is both criticized and defended in the Jewish press here in connection with David Ben-Gurion’s resignation from the executive of the Jewish Agency as a result of the latter’s dissatisfaction with Dr. Weizmann’s political activities.

The issue which is still under discussion in the Palestine press is discussed today in the Hatzofeh, organ of the Mizrachi, and in the Mishmar, organ of the Hashomer Hatzair. While the Mishmar, expressing the sentiments of the left wing of the Palestine Labor Party, lauds Dr. Weizmann and says that his policy is “most sound,” the Mizrachi paper writes: “The cause of Ben-Gurion’s resignation should not be sought in divergencies based on principles. The resignation resulted from Dr. Weizmann’s disregard of the opinions of other members of the Zionist executive. For many years he has not consulted these members even on the most important problems. It must be added that the same policy prevails in the Zionist executive in Jerusalem with regard to members who do not represent the Labor Party.”

Acting under pressure from the Labor Party, the Mizrachi and the General Zionists group “B.” the Assefath Hanivcharim, the Jewish National Assembly of Palestine, today decided to postpone its forthcoming session “until further notice.” The session was to open on Monday for the purpose of clarifying the present situation in the Zionist movement and deciding on a political line of action with regard to Jewish interests in Palestine.
