The Mayor of Munich reported here that his city government, the Bavarian State government and the West German government are sharing the cost of an $857,000 Jewish Community Center now under construction in Munich. Dr. Hans Vogel, who is on a visit to Israel, said the center will replace the old Jewish community center which was gutted by fire last year. Seven elderly Jews who lived in the old age home that was part of the center died in the blaze. The fire has been attributed to arson, but the police have ended their investigation of the incident because they don’t have any clues, according to the Munich mayor. Dr. Vogel said he believes the fire was started by a psychopath, not by political extremists.
