The West German foreign office has asked the Israeli Foreign Ministry in Jerusalem for approval of 55-year-old Karl Hermann Knoke as the Federal Republic’s new Ambassador to Israel, it was learned here today. Mr. Knoke, presently the West German Ambassador to the Netherlands, served as a Wehrmacht officer in World War II but was never a member of the Nazi Party. His wife is the Countess Dohne who was a member of the anti-Hitler resistance movement in Germany. He is to succeed Dr. Rolf Pauls, the first West German envoy to Israel.
