Despite strong objections voiced by the Israel delegation, Western Germany was elected during the week-end to membership in the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization. The vote on Germany’s admission was 49-2, with one abstention.

Yehuda Lowe, Israel delegate, said that “the evil spirit of Nazies again raises its head in Germany,” and added that Israel has not forgotten the “slaughter of 6,000,000 Jews by the Hitler regime.” Also elected to membership was Jordan, whose entry was unopposed, with Israel abataining. The Jewish state was one of five countries to vote unsuccessfully against Spain’s admission to the F.A.O.
