The West German Government has agreed to pay five million marks ($1,250,000) in compensation to Greek Jews in Salonika for material losses suffered during the Nazi occupation, Joseph Lovinger, newly-elected president of the Central Board of Jewish Communities in Greece, revealed today. Salonika Jews today number only a few hundred as compared to 80,000 before World War II and the Nazi occupation. In all, there are 6,000 Jews in Greece, half of whom reside in Athens.
